Poems Analyses

Origami by Marjorie Evasco

This word unfolds, gathers up wind
to speed the crane's flight
north of my sun to you.

I am shaping this poem
out of paper, folding
distances between our seasons.

This paper is a crane.
When its wings unfold,
The paper will be pure and empty.

Group Analyses:
Marjorie Evasco's poem entitled, Origami, talks about memories and freedom. Memories that he cannot express because he has no freedom to move forward in his life. He cannot think for an escape to the memories that happened in the past. He only let the wind to open the next chapter of his life to move on from the past and to get the freedom he wanted.

On the 1st stanza of the poem, it's all about the words or messages that he wants to say to someone. It is written on a paper formed like a crane. The words or messages was delivered easily despite their distances.

Moreover, even he experiences fall down once, he manage to stand up and face the real world. He use his mind and soul to shape his dream into reality. He has no care about their distances as long as he has the courage, he will do anything to shape their dreams happily and contented.

Finally, the story of their success is being unfold and inspires a lot of people because of its purity. They just don't care about the distance, because distance is just a number. They prove that distance is not a hindrance to their success in life.

Bonsai
Edith Tiempo

All that I love
I fold over once
And once again
And keep in a box
Or a slit in a hollow post
Or in my shoe.

All that I love?
Why, yes, but for the moment-
And for all time, both.
Something that folds and keeps easy,
Son’s note or Dad’s one gaudy tie,
A roto picture of a queen,
A blue Indian shawl, even
A money bill.

It’s utter sublimation,
A feat, this heart’s control
Moment to moment
To scale all love down
To a cupped hand’s size

Till seashells are broken pieces
From God’s own bright teeth,
And life and love are real
Things you can run and
Breathless hand over
To the merest child.

Group Analyses:

Edith L. Tiempo's poem, Bonsai is a poem that talks about small things that are also considered as important things in a life of a person. It is giving value to something even if it just a small piece of paper. It needs to be love and everything has a purpose even if it is a small one. You must treasure all the things that you have, big or small one because you will don't know that in the future it will make you remember the moments that you have with that thing.

As the 1st stanza says, "All that I love, I fold over once and keep in a box, " it tells that the love she receives is being folded in order it to be place in a box and it means that if you will keep that love you give meaning of that small thing and you want to keep it because you love that moment.

The second stanza talks all the things that are being kept that gaves sentimental value to her like son's note or Dad's one gaudy tie, a roto picture of a young queen, a blue Indian shawl, and a money bill. These things are very important to her because these things are part of her life as she grows up and have some memories that she can't forget.

The third stanza states that it is a great achievement for her, keeping all the important things for her. It also talks about her total expression of her feeling that makes her shows courage as a person little by little she will form the love that she have into a gift of blessings and graces.

Finally, the last stanza talks about life and love as a real gift from God. It makes us remind that these things are essential to our existence here on Earth. Spread the love, love, love!
